Who we are

Our Story

Over the years Butch and Meryl have welcomed countless families and friends to Harrietville Cabins. They have hosted weddings, reunions and celebrations, creating a place where memories are made.

They have weathered bushfires and floods, tended the grounds to an impeccable standard and continually upgraded the cabins with new beds, fresh furniture and modern facilities to ensure every guest feels at home.

Through it all Butch and Meryl have built lifelong friendships with return guests. This is the most rewarding part of running a family business. It is a place where families can relax, connect and create their own life long memories.

We are a family business for families. We welcome you and your family, whether it has just begun, is flourishing with grandkids or you are a solo traveller who has stumbled upon this beautiful town.

Whatever brings you here, welcome to Harrietville Cabins.
The Thomas family, owners of Harrietville Cabins, long‑time locals with over 40 years in the area
1971–1992 Meryl spent many years holidaying at the Harrietville Caravan Park with her mum, Noreen, building a lifelong love for the area.
1990 Brian ‘Butch’ Thomas arrived from Adelaide chasing the snow in a 40‑series LandCruiser and a TT250 motorbike. He fell in love with the area and bought the Harrietville Caravan Park.
1992 Meryl and Butch married from their connection in the carvan park, and together became owners of the Harrietville Caravan Park, a role they held for 34 years.
1993 Their first son, Lachlan, was born.
1997 Their daughter, Brianna, was born. The family built the first three cabins on the neighbouring property.
2001–2002 Five more cabins were added, growing into a well‑loved accommodation option for families, friends and adventurers in Victoria’s High Country with a total of eight cabins.
2023 Butch and Meryl sold the caravan park and kept the cabin site, now known as Harrietville Cabins, continuing the family’s connection to this special place.
